About the Challenge

The very first 30 Day Sketchbook Challenge ran in Jan 2018, attracting thousands of people people to draw something in their sketchbooks every day for 30 days. The atmosphere was fantastic and the sheer volume of sketches and doodles overwhelming. It was amazing to see so many people picking up a pencil or pen (including LOADS of beginners) and just get sketching. No pressure, no judgement – just daily creative fun.

So what is the Sketchbook Challenge?

Put simply, it is a commitment to draw in your sketchbook for 30 days in a row. Whether you draw for 30 seconds, 30 minutes or even several hours, it doesn’t matter. Whether you are a beginner to drawing or a professional artist, it doesn’t matter.

When the challenge begins I send you 30 different prompts to get you sketching – a different one each day. And that is the challenge!

The aim is just to make drawing become a habit and part of your daily routine. I want to help you to fill your sketchbook, boost your creativity and get your drawing mojo back on top form.

Is the Sketchbook Challenge free?

When I started the very first sketchbook challenge I did so with the intention of always making it free as I am passionate about getting everyone sketching. I therefore always intend to offer a free version available for those who cannot afford to pay or do not want to pay.

Over the past four years I have ‘levelled-up’ the challenge by offering a number of new features such as explanation videos. In 2022 I levelled-up again and offered a paid option as well as the free option. This enabled me to provide additional explanation and sketching tutorial videos and so that I could give my full attention to those people in the private Facebook community (including a team of helpful moderators). It also allowed those that wanted to take part for free to carry on enjoying the challenge as normal. Hopefully everyone will be happy and enjoy the sketching fun.
